Home Team: Oklahoma State Cowboys
Ranked second nationally in total offense, it's tough to nit-pick with Oklahoma State's production during a 3-0 start. However, the Cowboys have struggled some in goal-line situations. Two plays from the Troy 1-yard line were stuffed in that narrow win, and another try from that distance was stopped by Tulsa. Each of the plays were rushes. QB Brandon Weeden eventually threw for touchdowns in each situation, but the Cowboys may be challenged when it comes to gaining the tough yard. Nonetheless, RB Kendall Hunter is tough to contain and he makes it possible for Weeden to distribute the ball effectively to several targets in the passing game.Visiting Team: Texas A and M Aggies
Texas A&M might be the nation's biggest mystery team heading into its bye week. The Aggies are one of only a handful of teams who haven't been televised. It's left many outside of Central Texas wondering how good Coach Mike Sherman's team really is.The Aggies have charged to a 3-0 record on a ridiculously soft schedule. They escaped with a dramatic 27-20 comeback victory over Florida International despite a horrid performance by Jerrod Johnson that included four interceptions in the third quarter after six sacks in the first half. All of those miseries came against an FIU defense that ranked 119th nationally in total defense last season.
New A&M defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter appears to have his unit ahead of projections. And it's a good thing. The Aggies likely would have lost last week without his unit's work keeping the game close.
Johnson's struggles in mechanics are a cause for concern. And the Aggies' special teams were a liability before appearing to turn the corner with a clean game against the Golden Panthers.
